Blood pressure testing is quick and painless, taking place at the start of most visits as your vitals are being taken. Your blood pressure is a measure of the force of your blood against the artery walls as your heart beats. Two readings are taken: systolic, or the pressure of flowing blood while your heart contracts, and diastolic, the pressure between heartbeats.
How is blood pressure measured?
Blood pressure checks are a standard part of most urgent care visits, and a critical part of making sure you are not at risk for cardiac health complications during or after your visit. A cuff is placed around your arm and inflated until your circulation is cut off, then slowly deflated as your doctor listens to your pulse using a stethoscope against your pressure point. Blood pressure can be used to check for the following:
- Hypertension
- High cholesterol
- High blood pressure
If an issue is detected, we will be able to perform lab testing and X-Rays using our on-site facilities. For further treatment, we will be able to refer you to your primary care physician or a specialist for a full workup.
