AFC Urgent Care Aberdeen offers the Abbott ID NOW COVID-19 rapid test to detect cases of the live COVID-19 virus. This rapid test provides positive results in 5 minutes and negative results in 13 minutes. It is performed via a molecular instrument, which is more accurate than rapid antigen tests. The Abbott ID NOW test is available under an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) from the FDA. Click here for more information showing the Abbott ID NOW’s COVID-19 testing performance of 95.0% sensitivity and 97.9% specificity within seven days of symptom onset. If you have recently been exposed to someone who has subsequently tested positive for COVID-19 or are exhibiting symptoms of the virus, visit AFC Urgent Care Aberdeen for rapid testing.
We test symptomatic and asymptomatic patients aged 8 years and older pursuant to an encounter with one of our medical providers. If you have recently tested positive for covid-19, you may not present at our center for a covid-19 test until you have completed the requisite 14-day isolation period.
The Abbott rapid covid-19 test is covered by many, but not all, of the insurance plans that we currently accept, including Medicare. Unless otherwise medically necessary, patients insured with Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, AmeriHealth, and MagnaCare will be required to pay a $50 upfront fee to obtain the Abbott Rapid Test. If you are uninsured, upon signing an attestation, the federal government’s HRSA program will cover your cost for the outside lab PCR test. We do not currently accept Medicaid patients.

What should I do to prepare for my rapid test?
When you arrive at AFC Urgent Care Aberdeen for a rapid test, please make sure you are wearing a mask or protective face covering over your nose and mouth. This should only be lowered when asked by our clinical staff in order to collect the testing sample. The sample will be collected by taking a gentle swab of your upper nasal cavity, which is processed on-site. The swab, which only takes a brief moment, is mildly uncomfortable and should not cause any pain.
How does the rapid test detect the presence of COVID-19?
When the sample is processed on-site, it is combined with a mix of chemicals that break apart the virus (if it is present in your sample). The genetic material of the virus is then replicated in targeted molecules from your sample, which detect the presence of the active virus. The result is displayed on the device’s screen and printed. A member of our clinical staff will provide you with a printout of your result prior to your departure.
What are the symptoms of COVID-19?

- Sudden loss of smell and/or taste
